Greg Metzo stands tall for his customers at Waypoint Bank – Fort Collins

Veteran Northern Colorado banker joins local branch as Vice President / Commercial Lender

Greg Metzo is the kind of banker people will look up to – even if they’ve just met him.

That’s because, in addition to already building a decorated banking career in Fort Collins, Greg stands 6 feet 9 inches tall.

As the new Vice President / Commercial Lender at Waypoint Bank – Fort Collins, which serves all of Northern Colorado, Greg is known as the “tallest banker in Northern Colorado.” However, when it comes to helping his clients structure and manage their loan portfolios, Greg is down to earth.

A former college basketball player, Greg divided his studies and his playing career between New Mexico State University and the College of Santa Fe, where he went on to graduate with degrees in both management and public administration.

While he might be happy to strike up a conversation with you about basketball, Greg’s banking prowess is how he really stands out in the crowd.

A banker steeped in credit skills and community relationships

“Greg’s knowledge of the Northern Colorado market, connections, and credit skills were some of the stand-out characteristics that led us to choose him to be a part of our team,” said Dave Besch, Northern Colorado Branch President for Waypoint Bank – Fort Collins.

Greg started his banking career in New Mexico before moving to Fort Collins 21 years ago. He has since held positions at multiple banks – including First Interstate Bank and US Bank — before joining Waypoint in November.  His professional honors include Exemplary Credit Professionals recognition at First Interstate and the Legends of Possible Award at US Bank.

He takes pride in “supporting business owners and entrepreneurs with their financial needs” and helping his banking colleagues learn the credit process and underwrite loans. “I’m honored and extremely grateful that Dave invited me to return to my roots in community banking,” Greg shared.

“Community bankers are driven by relationships,” Greg said. “With 21 years in Northern Colorado at five bank organizations, I have a unique and common-sense approach to helping business owners.”

Greg volunteers in several community nonprofit organizations, including the North Fort Collins Business Association, Habitat for Humanity, and Realities for Children. He has been married to Shauna for 40 years and has two children, Britney and Derek, as well as their 12-year-old Pit Bull Terrier Lilly.

Perhaps another reason for Greg’s savvy in solving complicated issues for his clients? He’s one of five siblings. “I’m happy to work at a family-owned bank where I’m also a valued family member. This is where I belong.”
