Ken Brower climbs to a new height in his banking career

Waypoint Bank – Colorado Springs VP graduates with honors from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado

When Ken Brower finds enough free time, he’s likely to be somewhere he can’t be found.

“I try to spend as much time as possible solo hiking and backpacking, somewhere out of cell phone coverage in the mountains,” he said of his favorite pastime.

Which is an about face for a banker who otherwise embraces the spirit of “we are in this together” when he’s working with his customers.

“I enjoy having the flexibility to work with customers in their situation to develop mutually beneficial solutions to their projects,” said Ken, vice president at Waypoint Bank – Colorado Springs. A commercial banker, Ken also juggles management oversight responsibilities at the branch as well as his work on Waypoint Bank’s Colorado loan committee and its new product committee.

Celebrating a nearly Colorado native son

If that’s not enough to handle, Ken recently graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado (GSBC), an advanced study program for community banking leaders nationwide offered by University of Colorado. Among the 159 graduates from GSBC’s 73rd Annual School Session, Ken was among 20 to graduate with honors.

“It is Waypoint Bank’s goal to always have one employee in the program, and I was honored they picked me for this session,” he said. “GSBC has given me a deeper understanding of the tradeoffs that need to be considered by management as they are directing the bank to its goals.  It also demonstrated to me how intertwined the various bank departments are.  This will allow me to make more effective recommendations when evaluating products, processes, and loans.”

Ken calls himself “almost native” to Colorado. Like many Colorado Springs-area residents, Ken found his way to Colorado with the help of the United States military. In his case, Ken’s dad – a career Air Force officer  – was stationed in Colorado Springs when Ken was in first grade. The Brower family stayed in Colorado after Ken’s dad retired from the service.

Ken went on to graduate from Rampart High School in Colorado Springs and then earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. His banking career brought him to Waypoint Bank – Colorado Springs in 2015.

Of course, living in Colorado means Ken gets ready access to high country trails and getting away from it all. For the customers of Waypoint Bank – Colorado Springs, it means ready access to a high-performing community banker.
