Waypoint Bank and Pikes Peak Club: A Legacy of Care

Strong communities do not happen by accident. They require dedicated individuals and local businesses willing to invest their time, resources, and expertise into building something lasting. At Waypoint Bank, we believe our responsibility goes far beyond financial services. We measure our true success by the health and vitality of the communities we serve.

This commitment to local growth shines brightly through our Colorado Springs branch. Here, Waypoint Bank – Colorado Market President Robert Lucia leads by example, dedicating his time to a local community organization: the Pikes Peak Club.

Through decades of partnership, Waypoint Bank and the Pikes Peak Club have worked together to uplift the Colorado Springs community. Robert Lucia shared, “we have proudly supported the Pikes Peak Club for more than 25 years. This quarter-century of involvement reflects our deep belief in the club’s mission to make a positive difference in members’ lives and support those in need through active community service.”

The Pikes Peak Club carries a rich history intertwined with the fabric of Colorado Springs. Chartered on May 24, 1946, at the iconic Broadmoor Hotel, the club has served as a gathering place for civic-minded individuals for nearly 80 years.

Today, the club remains an intimate and focused group of 34 dedicated members. These individuals represent a diverse cross-section of the community, united by a shared love for the region and a passion for relationship building.

The group meets every Thursday for lunch. These weekly gatherings are much more than social hours. Each meeting features local guest speakers who share vital updates about what is happening across the Colorado Springs community. This steady stream of information ensures members stay informed about local challenges and opportunities, allowing them to direct their volunteer efforts exactly where they are needed most.

Members form strong bonds that extend well beyond the workplace and their respective neighborhoods. By engaging in social activities together, they build the deep trust required to execute meaningful community projects. Rather than just talking about community issues, the club partners with local nonprofits put boots on the ground and funding into action.

One of the club’s most recent hands-on partnerships is with the Build A Bed project through Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This incredible nonprofit organization operates on a simple but powerful belief: no child should have to sleep on the floor. Members of the Pikes Peak Club regularly roll up their sleeves to cut, sand, and assemble sturdy wooden bunk beds for local children in need. This project provides immediate, tangible comfort to families facing hardships, ensuring kids get the restful sleep they need to succeed in school and life.

Education remains one of the most effective tools for community advancement. Recognizing this, the Pikes Peak Club has made monumental investments in local higher education. The organization has donated an impressive $150,000 to start the Pikes Peak Club Building Bridges Endowment at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS) and $125,000 to start another endowment at Pikes Peak State College. These funds are carefully dispersed through scholarship programs, opening doors for local students who might otherwise struggle to afford their college tuition. By investing in these students, the club helps build the next generation of Colorado Springs leaders, innovators, and workforce professionals.

While the club manages large-scale educational donations, they also maintain a strong focus on immediate local needs. Today, the club regularly issues targeted grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to various local nonprofit organizations. These agile funding bursts help local charities cover operational costs, launch new initiatives, or address sudden community shortfalls.

The efforts of the Pikes Peak Club prove that when neighbors come together, incredible things happen. Are you looking to connect with a diverse group of strong friends while giving back to the city you love? The Pikes Peak Club is currently open to new members.
