We’re growing! Waypoint Bank is expanding its footprint in Clay County, announcing plans to acquire the Sutton branch of Astra Bank. With this acquisition, Waypoint Bank will have six branches in Nebraska and two in Colorado.
The transaction is expected to close later this summer, following regulatory approvals.
“We’re excited to welcome Sutton into the Waypoint Bank family,” said Tim Sladek, Chairman, President, and CEO of Waypoint Bank. “This expansion strengthens our branch network and deepens our presence in Clay County.”
For Astra Bank – with headquarters in Scandia, Kansas – Waypoint Bank, based in Cozad, represents a natural fit for Astra’s customers.
“As Astra Bank looked at its options, it was very important that a customer-focused community bank continued to be an integral part of Sutton,” explained Kyle Campbell, President/CEO of Astra Bank. “Waypoint Bank fits this description very well, and they are already integrated into the Clay County area. This was very important as their proposal was considered.”

The Waypoint-Astra agreement is also particularly meaningful for Sladek, who got his start with Waypoint Bank in Clay County. He wants Astra customers to feel at home with the new management. “Customers can expect the same friendly faces and personalized service they’ve come to know and trust,” Sladek said. “Other than a new name on the door, not much will change, and that’s exactly how it should be.”
Jessie Anderson, Branch President at Waypoint Bank – Clay Center, will also oversee Waypoint Bank – Sutton as part of her responsibilities in Clay County. Sutton is about 15 miles from Clay Center.
